William K. Tierney

 

William K. Tierney, 75, of Scranton died Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, at Regional Hospital of Scranton after being stricken ill at home. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Cummings Tierney. Born in Scranton, son of Frances Lupinski Tierney and the late William J Tierney. He was a member of Saint Ann’s Basilica. He is a graduate of South Catholic High School. As a Navy Veteran, he was awarded medals for The National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign, and Navy Achievement. Will worked for Deemer and Company. He later formed his own business Tierney Office Products that his father helped him run in the businesses early years. Will was the most active, busy man. He was a part of and ran a golf league with all his longtime South Side friends at Marjon for years. He had 17 years walking his best fur friend, Miko, for miles. He was the most quick witted and funny man, especially to himself. His laugh at his own jokes was more funny to everyone than the jokes themselves. He was an amazing provider, taking care of everyone and everything. A true rock of his whole family. If you needed to know something about anything, all you had to do was ask him. He was a wealth of knowledge. He could also keep you updated about almost every sport, from football to golf to even tennis. He loved talking with his girls and son in laws about exciting moments in sports. Surviving are four daughters, who were blessed to have the best Dad imaginable, Amy Walsh and husband Paul Walsh, Scranton, Jill Tierney and partner Brian Snivley, Maryland, Meghan Dixon and husband, Bryan Dixon, Factoryville, and Ciara Fowler and husband, Brian Fowler, Scranton. He was the most amazing ‘Pop’ to two granddaughters, who were the newest loves of his life, Sophia Snivley and McKenzie Dixon. Also surviving are sisters, Barb, Scranton, Maureen and husband, Tom, Archbald, and Ann, Scranton, and a brother, Mark, Scranton; Numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; Brother in laws and lifelong friends, Jim Grego, Jimmy Knott, and Chris Hinton. He is preceded in death by a brother, John, and a sister, Cindy. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, January 6th, 2025, at Saint Ann’s Basilica Church at 10 AM. Friends may call Sunday, January 5, 2025, 4PM-6 PM at The Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, 1240 Saint Ann’s Street, Scranton PA. Interment private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Ann Basilica.
