William George Banick

William George Banick, 91, of Moosic, passed into God's kingdom Sunday at Mountaintop Rehab Center. The world will now be a sadder place. His wife, Renee Cooke Banick, passed away in 2017; and his ex-wife, Eleanor Rutkowski Banick, passed away in 2016. Born in Scranton, son of the late Andrew and Pauline Hrutkay Banick, he was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, a paratrooper (81 jumps!) in the United States Army and the longest employee of the FAA at 51 years. He was a devoted and loving husband, grandfather and brother and literally the BEST father in the universe. Bill was loved by anyone he met. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kimberly; his brothers, Steve, Andy; a baby brother, John; and a sister, Kay. He is survived by his brothers, John and Carl; and sister, Mary; son, William and wife, Kristin, and granddaughter, Fern; daughter, Lynne Anderson and husband, Henry, and grandsons, Gavin and Reese; daughter, Johanna and fiancé, John, and grandsons, Charlie and Jayden; daughter, Sara and boyfriend, Albert; his furbabies and cuddlebugs, Manny and Bubbles; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Divine Mercy Parish, Davis Street. Interment, St. Mary of Czestochowa Cemetery, Moosic. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave., Scranton. To honor his life, we ask that you make a generous donation to your local food pantry.
