Thomas C. Woronko

 

Thomas C. Woronko, 85, of Scranton, passed peacefully at home on March 1, 2023 following an illness of several years. He was surrounded by his wife, Judith C. “Bogus” Boguszewski of 57 years and his children. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on Dec. 29, 1937, he was the son of the late Clara D. (Povlick) Woronko and was a 1956 graduate of GAR High School where he excelled in football. Tom was a US Army veteran who served in Korea. After his military service, he attended the Pa. State Police Academy. Upon graduation, he served in Troops H, R and S before retiring after 26 years in 1991. Following retirement he worked as an investigator with the University of Scranton Security Department. He is survived by his four children, Thomas and wife, Chris; Robert and wife, Beth; and Donald and Karen Woronko; and five grandchildren, Stephanie, Sarah, Megan, Angela and Julia. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Joseph (Marge), Edmond (Delores), Raymond (Mary) and Tony (Joyce) and two sisters, Ann Wesolowski (Frank) and Geraldine Shady (Joseph). Tom was known to have a smile on his face and a keen and unique sense of humor. He spent many years of coaching at the Green Ridge Little League and Central High School Parent football and basketball Clubs. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 am at St. Paul’s Church, Penn Ave., Scranton. Interment, SS. Peter and Paul Polish Cemetery, Taylor, Pa. Friends may pay their respects in the Church starting at 9 am. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity in honor of Tom’s memory.
