Steve Yanick

 

Corrected Stephen R. Yanick August 18, 2022 Stephen “Steve” Yanick passed away at Hugley Hospital surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness. Steve is survived by his wife of 22 years, Gail Baumann Yanick. Born in Suffern, N.Y., to John Yanick and the late Theresa Pretko Yanick. He served in the United States Air Force, and he was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. In Steve’s earlier days he served as a member of the Ridgewood Fire Department. After living in Ridgewood, Steve moved to Dickson City where he resided for a number of years, prior to moving to Keene, Texas, where he served as a security guard and ultimately retired from Allied Universal Protection Services, prior to his illness. The “Spoiled Jersey Boy” as Gail affectionately called him, because it was his way or the highway, was an avid baker. He loved baking pies, cakes and cookies of all sorts. The first cookie he every taught his grandkids to make was kruschicki’s. Steve really enjoyed his grandkids and great-grandkids. He lit up every time one of them came around. It didn’t matter day or night, he never knew the word NO when it came to his grandbabies. They meant the world to him. Steve loved teaching his grandkids how to bake. He was just starting to teach his great-grandkids before he passed away. Husband, dad, brother, uncle, nephew, son. you will be missed and always loved. In addition, he is survived by his father, John Yanick and stepmother, Lois; brothers, Chris (Irene); and Kenneth (Maria), of Bushkill Falls, Pa. Also, surviving are two sisters, Pam Stevens (Jimmy), Buttzville, N.J.; and Vicky Vargo (Al), of Clarks Summit; daughters, Pearl Yanick (Derrick), of Jermyn, Pa.; Ashley Fiske (Justin), of Jacksonville, Fla.; Desiree Kane and Holly Warrick, both of Scranton; Regina Ellis, of Gaitsville, Texas; son-in-law and pastor, Michael Kane, Rio Vista, Texas; a son, Nathan Houman, of Carbondale, Pa. Steve is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Jane Howell; and Nancy Baumann (Alethea), both of Scranton; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces nephews and aunts. Steve was preceded in death by three grandchildren; brother, Gregory Yanick; and a nephew, Mark Stevens. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in Queen of Apostles Church, Avoca. Interment, parish cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday in the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann’s St., Scranton

Daddy, I miss you so much. Your granddaughters miss you so much. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about you, or how I want to pick up the phone and call you and chat. I’m scared of the future and not having you here.
