Ruth Richards dies at 106 April 11, 2023 Ruth Richards, born in Scranton in 1916, died Tuesday at the Pines in Clarks Summit. She was the daughter of the late Julius and Ellen Sack and was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Newman; and brother, Thomas Sack. Her husband, Arthur Richards, passed away in 1984. Surviving are her daughter, Kathy Rogers; grandsons, Richard, Jay and Mark; their spouses, Taylor, Olivia and Sarah; and great-grandchildren, Ella, Will, Sadie, Colin and Nora. She was an active member of many community organizations including Embury United Methodist Church, Church Women United, the St. David’s Society and Pa. Quilters. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the ICS as a math instructor. She also enjoyed traveling and especially loved visiting her daughter’s family in Washington state every year. Even at 106, she treasured her last trip, which occurred just this past December. A funeral service will be held Friday at noon in the Davies and Jones Funeral Chapel, 1401 Capouse Ave., Scranton. Interment will take place at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, directly after the service. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
