Romayne Nerch, 96, passed away in the early hours of the morning on 11-27-2024 at Marywood Heights Nursing Facility. Romayne Nerch was born June 16, 1928 at Taylor Hospital in Taylor, PA to Michael Pepsin and Bertha Mostosky Pepsin. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Chester Nerch, for 58 years until his passing in 2006. Romayne graduated from Taylor High School where she was the school’s first Drum Majorette. Romayne was a graduate of Hoyt School of practical nursing and Madame Fenwick Beauty School and was a licensed cosmetologist. She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Taylor for many years. She worked for many years at the family business, Nerch’s Café. Romayne was a hair dresser for over 25 local funeral homes where she styled the hair of the deceased. She did this until she was 91 years old. Romayne was on the Riverside School Board for 24 years and served as President of NEIU 19 Board of Directors. She was very involved in Taylor and Lackawanna County politics for the Democratic Party. Romayne took pride in her voting record where she did not miss a vote in a primary or general election since she was able to vote, including in the 2024 general election. Romayne’s greatest joys in her life were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. She loved them fiercely and they were her whole world. She enjoyed many years of watching their dance recitals, sporting events and music recitals. She was an avid Riverside Viking, Penn State and Pittsburgh Steeler fan and watched football on Saturdays and Sundays. Romayne was the most generous person to her family and cared about them more than herself. She would give them the world if she could. She had a very strong faith in God and a special devotion to St. Anthony and St. Jude. Her faith was very important to her and she would always say “faith can move mountains.” Romayne enjoyed trips to the casino and her scratch off lottery tickets. She enjoyed her daily talks with her best friend, Marilyn Gualtieri who she loved dearly. Romayne was the strongest person we knew and a product of “The Greatest Generation.” Her strength was evident in the way she lived her life as well as for how long she lived. Mom, Grandma, Nana and friend will be missed by all. Romayne is survived by daughter Dianne (Edward) Haduck, daughter Michelle (Donald) Gualtieri; Grandchildren Morgann (Dr. Ian) Stout, Dr. Madison (Christine) Chiodo, Mckenzie Haduck, Dr. Sydney Gualtieri and fiancé, Dr. Kyle Plusch, 1 Lt. Luke (Kailee) Gualtieri, Peyton Gualtieri and great grandchild, Emelia Stout. She has several nieces, nephews and cousins. Romayne was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, infant daughter, infant son Chester Jr., brothers Joseph and Edward Pepsin, Brother-in-law, Raymond Nerch, Sisters-in-law, Florence Pepsin and Irene Karwaski. The family would like to thank Dr. Yvonne Galella for the care she provided over the years. T, Krysta, Amy, Stacey, Brooke and Brittany and many others from Marywood Heights Nursing Home, Chrissy Connor, care giver and friend and Holly, Samantha and Mary from Traditional Hospice. The mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, 12-2-2024 at SS Peter and Paul RC Church on Locust Street in West Scranton at 10:00 am. Interment Parish Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 3-7 in the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 1240 St. Ann’s Street, Scranton, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Center, Scranton.
