Roland “Pokey” Johnson

 

Roland "Pokey" Johnson, 77, of Scranton, died Friday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. His wife is Patricia Flanagan Johnson. Born in Scranton, son of the late Roland Johnson and Lovie McIver, and stepson of Esther Johnson, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and spent many years in Rochester, N.Y. He worked many years as a cook in local hospitals and before his disability, he was employed for 20 years at Harper Collins. While at Harper, he was a union steward, Local 229. He was most proud of his stepchildren and grandchildren. A fervent Cowboys fan, his passions were his family, his team and his friends. His wife and stepchildren were extremely proud of the accomplishments he made in his life. Also surviving are four stepchildren, Al Granville and wife, Christine; Greg Granville; Chris Davis and husband, Scott; and Pattie Granville and fiancé, Scott; siblings, Marlene Edwards; Herman Johnson and wife, Chris; Sandra Johnson Spencer; Dorothy Cameron; Leticia McIver; Larry McIver; and Norman McIver and wife, Donna; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tisha; sister, Connie; and brother, Earl. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. John Neumann Church, Orchard Street. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call in the church starting at 10 a.m. Arrangements by McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home Inc.
