
Robert J. Stanavitch, 85, of Scranton, passed away on Monday morning at Community Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Althea J. Polito. Born on October 11, 1941, in Scranton, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary Kudrich Stanavitch. Robert proudly served in the Army Reserves and worked in the garment industry before retiring. An avid outdoorsman, Robert enjoyed bow and rifle hunting and spent time working in his garden. He was also an animal lover who found joy in sitting on his porch. He will be fondly remembered by everyone who loved and knew him.
He is survived by three daughters: Christine Stanavitch of Scranton, MaryAnne Stanavitch and her significant other, Jim Nelson, also of Scranton, and Kathryn Stanavitch and her significant other, Richard Krayer, from Scranton. He leaves behind four grandchildren: Timothy Jones and his wife, Debra; Joseph Stanavitch of Scranton; Britni Leonard and her husband, Jake, from Peckville; and Mathiew Stanavitch of Scranton. Additionally, he is survived by four great-grandchildren: CJ, Timothy, and Aurora Jones of Scranton, and Ellie Leonard of Peckville, who is due this December.
His surviving brother is Eugene Stanavitch from Scranton; several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Edward R. Stanavitch, Scranton; and a sister, Elizabeth Deba, Baltimore. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, located at 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
