Robert J. Rainey, 83, of Throop, passed away Thursday, May 2 at Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. Born in Scranton, May 20, 1940, son of the late Cyril and Catherine (Manley) Rainey. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and the University of Scranton. He served in the United States Army and worked for the government in small business administration claims on disaster and later for the Lackawanna County Children and Youth. He is survived by his wife, Jean Forster, a brother, Cyril J. Rainey Jr., Scranton, a godson, Tim Manley and a niece, Sue White Bowers. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Rainey White and a nephew, William White Jr. A funeral will be held Tuesday, May 7th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street, Scranton, PA. Family and friends may call in the church from 9:00 a.m. till 10:00 a.m. Entombment Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Food Pantry or your favorite charity. Arrangements entrusted to the Thomas J.
