Robert J. Bird, 92, of Blandon died on Friday, February 19, 2021. He was a former resident of Scranton PA and Brentwood NY. His wife of 52 years, Mary Kane Bird, preceded him in death on April 1, 2006. Born in Pittston, PA, son of the late Leroy and Jessica Nodolski Bird, he was a graduate of Jenkins Township High School and the University of Scranton. Robert was a proud WWII veteran, serving in Germany. Prior to retirement, he spent 40 years as an underwriter for Allstate Insurance Company. A devout Catholic, Robert was a member of St. Mary's Church in Kutztown and St. Joseph's Church in Scranton. He was a softball player and later served as the Commissioner of the Long Island Industrial Softball League for many years. He was also an avid dancer who was a member of several dance clubs. Surviving are two daughters, Jeannie Johansen and husband, Keith, Lewes, DE; and Jennifer Scanlan and husband, Sean, Blandon; six grandchildren, Steven and Brian Johansen, Robert Bird, Kristen Bird-Lagud and Blane and FaithAnn Scanlan; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Jane Bliss; and nephew, Frank Bliss. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Gerard Bird; and a brother, Joseph Bird. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11am in St. Joseph's Church at Divine Mercy Parish, Scranton. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Scranton.
