Richard L. Via, of Scranton, passed away Thursday morning at Geisinger CMC. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty F. Dietrick.
Born and raised in Tamaqua, son of the late Darlene Hoffman and Noah Via, he was a Vietnam veteran who served with the United States Navy and also a member of the VFW Post #7069 in Clarks Summit. Richard was a train enthusiast from childhood and enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. His career of a long-haul truck driver for over 30 years took him many places around the country, where he met a lot of different people along the way.
Surviving are his son, Richard G. and wife, Jamie L.; daughter, Michele L. Swiderski; four grandchildren, Richard J, Caden, Thomas J Pernice Jr. and Morgan Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Leonard; sister, Sandy L. Tripple; and daughter, Betty F. Swiderski.
Friends may call Monday from 5-7pm in the McGoff-Hughes FH Inc, 1401 Capouse Ave. Interment, private at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
