Richard J. Witkowski Sr.

 

Richard J. Witkowski Sr., 80, of Lake Ariel, died peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family on Wednesday at Geisinger CMC following a brief courageous battle with cancer. His loving and devoted wife of 45 years is Marion Fuller Greenburg Witkowski. Born in Scranton, son of the late Frank and Mary Boris Witkowski; he was educated in the Scranton Public Schools. Following his education, he joined the armed forces and was a sergeant in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He also attended The Hershey State Police academy in Hershey, Pa. He was a retired Scranton Police officer under Mayor Hickey of Scranton. Prior to his retirement, he was also employed by Cinram and was a deputy sheriff for Wayne County. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends doing such activities as traveling, camping, hunting and fishing, playing his guitar, hanging out with his friends and loved his two beloved beagles Bear and Buddy before they passed. He had a love for music and played lead guitar in the band Travelin Sound. Also surviving are 2 sons, Kenneth and fiance Melissa McManus (Dunmore); Steven Greenburg and wife Cleora (Eynon); a daughter Lori Stedina and fiance Danny Walsh(Scranton); a sister Lisa Perna and husband Tony(Scranton); daughter in law Diana Witkowski (Elmhurst) sister in law Brenda Bickel (Sunbury) ; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Butch, sister Cookie,sister in law Roberta Rought, brother in law Robert Fuller, sons Richard Witkowski Jr, Allen Greenburg Jr. and grandson Richard Witkowski I. He’ll be loved and missed by everyone who knew and loved him. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at noon in the Thomas J Hughes FH Inc, 1240 St Ann St, Scranton. Friends may call Monday from 5-7pm.
