Patrick J Gilroy

Patrick J. Gilroy, 51, of Dalton, died Aug. 16, 2020, at home, after a brief illness, with his wife by his side. They would have celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary this month. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John G. Gilroy Sr. and the late Annette Petcavage Gilroy. He is survived by his wife, Mary Belle (Szajkowski) Gilroy, and sons, John-Patrick, 17, and Sean, 13. Next closest surviving kin are his brothers, John G. Gilroy Jr., Newfoundland; and Jeffrey Gilroy, Pittsburgh. He is also survived by a large, blended array of in-laws, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Growing up in the Green Ridge section of Scranton, he attended St. Clare and St. Paul schools, and graduated from Scranton Central High School. He attended Keystone College and received a Bachelor of Science degree in finance, graduating magna cum laude, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Employed by Cigna in Moosic for 19 years as a Client Account Service Executive, he created and led the dedicated healthcare insurance support team to the National Football League and AON Consulting. During his tenure at Cigna, he was recognized nationally when he was named the “2014 Second Quarter Champion,” and in 2020 when he was nominated for “Partner of Choice” for his sales successes. He leaves behind a significant impact and legacy on those lives he touched and the relationships he developed through his role at Cigna. Adored and loved by his wife and sons, Pat was a loving and dedicated husband and father. He was a generous man; always there to offer help to those who needed it. He maintained many strong and cherished friendships throughout his lifetime. An accomplished athlete, he played football in high school, and played in softball and bowling leagues throughout his late teens and twenties. In recent years, he was a consummate golfer and holds a spot on the hole-in-one board at Emanon Country Club. Pat enjoyed spending weekends at his Lake Carey cottage, fishing, and playing cards, darts and corn hole. One of his family’s most cherished memories was a 2013 pilgrimage trip to Lambeau Field in Wisconsin to see his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish in Clarks Summit. A private Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated by Monsignor Joseph G. Quinn, pastor, on Friday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m., at the Church of St. Benedict, 1849 Newton-Ransom Blvd., Clarks Summit, PA 18411. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Due to COVID-19, the family asks that all wear masks and maintain social distancing etiquette. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Countryside Conservancy, P.O. Box 55, La Plume, PA 18440.
