Patricia M. Gilhooley

 

Patricia M. Gilhooley, 86, formerly of Scranton, passed away on Saturday, September 5th at Abington Manor. Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Robert J. and Ruth Whitehouse Hentz. She was raised and lived most of her life in the Green Ridge section of Scranton and summers with her grandmother at Elk Lake. She was educated in Scranton Public Schools and graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1958. She began her career as a realtor with Century 21 Jack Ruddy Real Estate, and later became an Associate Broker with John J. Lavelle Real Estate. After real estate, and, until retirement, she worked for Lackawanna County Veterans Affairs, a job that she enjoyed immensely. She was a talented artist, painting countless oil paintings with incredible detail, both large and small. She loved dogs and enjoyed traveling, particularly to Cape May, NJ and taking her trip of a lifetime to Ireland. She was a member of Saint Paul’s Church. She is survived by her son James, his wife Margaretta and two grandchildren, Catherine Gilhooley and Megan Gilhooley, cousin Tom Lewis and wife Suzie of Clearwater, FL. as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a niece, Kara Gilhooley. She is also survived by her longtime friends Nancy and Joan who always buoyed her spirits with their frequent visits and outings. The family would also like to thank the staff at Abington Manor for their care and compassion during Tricia’s time there. A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, September 14th in Saint Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Ave, Scranton, PA at 10 AM. Friends may call at the church from 9 AM to 10 AM. Interment Abington Hills Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home.
