Michael Richard Gordon

 

Michael Richard Gordon, 84 of the Minooka section of Scranton, died Sunday April 2, 2023 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, the former Catherine ‘Kak’ Evanski. Growing up in Scranton, Mike graduated from South Catholic High School and later attended the University of Scranton. Mike had a successful career in the Trucking Industry in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He was employed by Transcon Trucking Company in the positions of Sales Manager and Terminal Manager. After his successful trucking industry career, he retired from the Lackawanna County Coordinated Transportation Department where he was the Transportation Coordinator. Outside of work, he was a proud member of the Traffic Club of NEPA, the Ancient Order of Hibernians- JFK Division, and was the 2018 Honorary Grand Marshal of the Scranton Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. One of Mike’s biggest passions was sports. He spent his life as a proud fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Giants, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Some of his fondest memories were spent surrounded by his loving family cheering and rooting for his Fighting Irish at home. He took his love of sports to his home town, spending many years coaching baseball at the East Scranton Little League. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister Nancy Finnerty and his adoring children, daughter Mary Kate and husband Jerry Werner, Jefferson Twp.; Son Michael Gordon and wife Stacy, Clarks Green; Daughter Beth and husband Timothy Hopkins, Dunmore; and his greatest gifts, his grandchildren Lindsay and Scott Parker, Bryan and Amanda Ancherani, Sean and Liam Gordon, Timothy and Katherine Hopkins; And his great grandchildren Connor Ancherani, Amelia Parker, and Noah Hinkley. He is also survived by his loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dearest friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Rena Walsh Gordon, his mother-in-law Alice Warner, his sister Mae Finnerty and brothers-in-law Paul and Harry Finnerty. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday from the Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Avenue in Scranton with a mass of Christian burial at 9:30AM in St. Peter’s Cathedral on Wyoming Avenue in Scranton. Friends and family may pay their respects Tuesday from 5-7:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to both Hospice of the Sacred Heart on 100 Williams St. in Dunmore, 18509, as well as St. Joseph’s Center on 2010 Adams Avenue in Scranton, 18509.
