Meriann O Malley

Meriann O'Malley, 61, of Taylor, died Thursday at home after a long illness. Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Lorraine ValEnches O'Malley, she was a graduate of the University of Scranton, magna cum laude. Before her illness, she worked with the mentally handicapped, and lastly as a state inspector of group and health organizations. She was a special person who was always there to help friends and family selflessly. All who knew her were blessed. Meriann was a loving sister and favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews. Surviving are two brothers, Joseph, Scranton; and Thomas O'Malley and wife, Cyndi, Florida; sister, Ellie Skibinski and husband, Robert, Scranton; nieces, nephews, a great-niece and three great-nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sarene O'Malley. Per Meriann's wishes, there will be no formal services. Instead, she wanted cherished family and friends to gather together for a celebration. All are invited to attend a celebration of life at the Waldorf on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of gifts, please send your prayers her way. Arrangements by Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave., Scranton.
