
Mary C. Swartz, 88, of Scranton, passed away on Saturday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart. She was the widow of Jasper D. Swartz, who passed away in 1984 after 29 years of marriage together.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Sheridan Gower, she was a loving mother and grandmother, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She attended Scranton schools and was a homemaker raising eight children. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and watching her favorite soap operas.
Surviving are eight children, Ann Marie Brunges (and late husband, Robert); Daniel Swartz and wife, Suzanne; Teresa Fuller, her main caregiver; Joseph Swartz and wife, Lisa; Mary Doris and husband Brian Nicholof; LuAnn Swartz; Robert Swartz and wife, Nicole; and Christina Swartz and companion, John Abbott; grandchildren, Kimberly Swartz, Jennifer Swartz, Joseph Swartz and wife, Kristin, James Fuller and wife, Tammy, Jonathan Fuller; Daniel J (DJ) Swartz and wife, Jennifer, Heather Aiken, Sandra Brunges, Jeffrey and Dylan Lake, Lindsay Nicholof and fiance, Mike Davis, Jessica Nicholof and Catelynn Swartz; 15 great-grandchildren, Keith Jr, Kodey and Krystal Tolley, Connor and Tyler Swartz, Devon and Tyler Fuller, Ava and Mya Berry, Owen and Hailey Swartz, Harrison Lake, Logan, Hunter and Savannah Aiken; two great-great-granddaughters, Serenity and Sydney Fuller; brother, Robert Gower; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Joshua Berry; brothers, Francis and Edward Gower; sisters, Joan Fezuk, Dorothy Zawadzki, Rita Hardziewic and Catherine (Kitty) Gazoo.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart Dunmore for their love, compassion and care given to their mother.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 7pm in the Thomas J Hughes FH Inc, 1240 St. Ann St, Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call starting at 5pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
