Mary Agnes Hazelton Geissler

 

Mary Hazelton Geissler, 88, of Scranton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Born on Sunday, May 30, 1937, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John Hazelton and Dorothy Orr Hazelton. She now joins them in eternal rest. Mary had been a resident of Oak Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare for the past 13 years, where she received compassionate care. In her final two weeks, she was under the care of Serenity Hospice. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Serenity Hospice for the kindness, dignity, and generous care they provided during her final days. Mary is survived by her loving family, including her nieces, Elaine (Gary) Shea and Carol (the late Michael) Mattern; her great-niece, Anna (Justin) Zantowsky; and her great-nephew, Jeremy Mattern, all of whom devotedly cared for her over the years. Her grandchildren Bailey and Bernard Smith. Niece, Billie Jo (Michael) Stewart; nephew, William (the late Cheryl) Smith; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great nephews; and her sister, AnnMarie Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph; her daughter, Stacy Smith; sisters, Helen Sakevich and Catherine Baldwin; and only brother, Thomas. Mary will be remembered for the love she shared with her family and strength she carried throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Services will be held privately at a later time at the convenience of the family. Any donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of her daughter, Stacy Smith.
