
Mark “Mal” O’Malley, 56, of West Scranton, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 8
surrounded by his loving family at Allied Services Hospice Center. His wife of 33 years is
Cathy Parry O’Malley.
He is also survived by his daughter, Courtney Chuff, and her husband Chris, Kennett Square, his
daughter Lauren O’Malley, Scranton, his two grandsons, Conor and Caden Chuff, Kennett
Square, his sister, Judith “Jude” Rhue, and her husband, Thomas, Scottsdale AZ, his brother-in-
law, Chuck Parry, and wife, Renee, Dalton, his niece Emily Parry, Dalton, numerous aunts,
uncles, cousins, and friends that are considered family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William O’Malley and Edna Nowakowski O’Malley,
his mother-in-law, Rosemary Isbitski, his father-in-law, Charles Parry, and his brother, Paul
O’Malley.
Born June 18, 1965 in Scranton, he was a 1983 graduate of West Scranton High School. After
graduation, Mark was employed by UPS for 37 years, where he had a distinguished record for
safe driving and was loved by his customers for his kindness and infectious smile. He loved his
brothers and sisters in brown.
Mark was the ultimate family man. He lived for his family and friends. He was a devoted and
loving husband, an adoring father to his two daughters, a wonderful father-in-law, a proud papa
to his two grandsons, a dedicated brother and brother-in-law, a caring uncle, and a loyal friend.
Mark was an avid runner, competing in numerous races, including marathons, half-marathons,
and an ultramarathon. He liked to fish, and he enjoyed golfing, particularly his yearly golf trip
with his lifelong friends. He never missed an opportunity to go on an “adventure” to the
playground or for walks with “his buddies,” Conor and Caden. He always looked forward to fall
Saturdays and Sundays, on which he would cheer for his favorite football teams, the Penn State
Nittany Lions and the Green Bay Packers.
The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Mark’s medical team, Dr. Han Xiao,
Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Christopher Peters and staff, NROC, Kelly Langan and the
entire team at Allied Service Hospice Center, and especially Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli, not only
for his guidance and support throughout Mark’s treatment, but also his friendship.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thomas J. Hughes Funeral
Home, 1240 St. Ann Street, Scranton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday,
November 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Basilica, Scranton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
or Allied Service Hospice Center.
