Margaret Lydia Flannery

Margaret Lydia Flannery, 76, of Scranton, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Allied Services Hospice, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Flannery, who preceded her in death on June 6, 2000. Born in Hoboken, NJ, Margaret was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Buerger) Lenz. She was a proud graduate of Our Lady of Grace High School and spent over 30 years working at W.W. Norton & Company, before her retirement. A longtime member of St. Ann’s Basilica, she was a woman of incredible strength, sharp wit, and deep compassion—traits that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She loved family gatherings, sci-fi movies, Smokey Robinson and always had a story to share. Her greatest joy came from her role as “Mimi,” a title she wore with immense pride and love. Surviving are her children: Shawn Flannery, Blakely; Kim Antosh and husband Jeffry, Covington Twp; and daughter-in-law Tammy Flannery, Archbald and brother-in-law, William Flannery. Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren: Madison and Delaney Flannery, Emily Bednarz and husband Matthew, and Jeffrey Antosh and wife Grace; her sister-in-law Pat Lenz, her nephew Nathan Lenz and wife Liz, great nephew Matthew Lenz, and great nieces Lucy and Amelia Lenz; and beloved dog, Poppy May, who never left her side. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Lenz, and countless loved ones with whom she is now reunited. Margaret’s legacy lives on in the memories she created and the love she gave so freely. Her family takes comfort knowing she found peace on her own terms, and that her spirit will continue to guide them—especially as they prepare to welcome her first great-grandchild, Elliana, who will grow up knowing her Mimi through stories, traditions, and the love that surrounds her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 1:00 PM at St. Ann’s Basilica, Scranton. Entombment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Family and friends may call on Monday from 11:45 PM to 12:45 PM at the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann St., Scranton. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you honor Margaret’s memory by making a donation to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.
