Laurie Gard

Laurie Gard, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore at the age of 65 after a courageous, long-term battle with cancer. Laurie is now reunited in eternal rest with her beloved parents, Dorothy and George Gard; her brother, George Gard; her sister Marilyn Morgan; and niece Kimberly Evans. She is survived by her loving husband Gilbert Barr of Scranton. Her devoted furry best friend Moses. Her sister Joanne Evans and her husband Richard Evans of Florida. Her daughter Katie Barr and partner John Williams of Throop. Her son Gilbert Barr and wife Bryanna of Scranton and her stepdaughter Devan Barr and partner Kevin Martin of Scranton. Laurie was a proud and loving grandmother to Stephen Barr, Caitlynn Larnerd, Abigale Barr, Georgia Larnerd, Maggie Barr, Jason Yarznbowicz, Athena Clarke, Levi Barr, and Peyton Barr. Also, surviving are nieces Christine Gard, Stacy Evans, Melissa Newberry, and Heather Hennessey. Laurie loved cheering on her children, grandchildren and family in everything they did. She was truly the life of the party, always bringing laughter, warmth, and joy wherever she went. She had a generous heart, always putting others before herself and never hesitating to lend a helping hand. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family and creating lasting memories with those she loved. Laurie's kindness, strength, and unconditional love touched countless lives. Although she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Laurie will always be loved, forever missed, and never forgotten. The family would like to give a special thanks to her niece Stacy Evans for caring for her throughout her battle with cancer and Hospice of The Sacred Heart of Dunmore for taking care of her in her final moments.
