Kevin A. Matlock

October 25, 1941 to October 25, 2016

Kevin Anthony Matlock, 56, of Harvey’s Lake, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at home with his brother, Mark, by his side.Born in Scranton, son of the late John and Mary Corbett Matlock, he was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School and attended Keystone College. He worked for several financial institutions, such as Prudential and Bank of America, but was employed most recently by Commonwealth Health Systems. Kevin’s early life was spent at Lake Winola, and on the family dairy farm in Falls. He also worked for many years at the family business, Matlock’s Bar in Falls. Kevin, also known as “UK” to his nieces and nephews, had a passion for travel with his family to warmer climates. He loved the summer months and warm weather, always saying “the hotter the better.” He was always the life of the party, every gathering was that much more fun when Kevin walked in. He enjoyed music and watching old movies on TCM, and cherished the days he took family for boat rides on the lake. Kevin valued time with his cousins and always looked forward to the annual Christmas Eve gathering at Rita and Sal Scrimalli’s home in Scranton. Kevin never allowed his illness to dampen his spirits. He was always ready to have a good time, right until the very end. Surviving are two brothers, Mark, with whom he resided; and John and wife, Donna, Falls; two nephews, John and wife, Jessica, Trucksville; and Tim and wife, Amy, North Wales; and two nieces, Erin Faux and husband, Donald; and Tara Charron and husband, Francis, all of Dallas; and several great-nephews and great-nieces. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those who were by his side and to Sacred Heart Hospice for making him comfortable in his final days. The funeral will be Saturday at 12:45 p.m. from the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann St., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. in St. Ann’s Basilica.
