Kathleen O'Hearn

Kathleen A. O’Hearn, age 69, of Moosic, Pa., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Kathleen was born on Oct. 31, 1951, in Scranton, Pa. She graduated from Mercyhurst University with a degree in secondary education, and later received a master’s degree in business management. She met Kevin O’Hearn at the Inn Place in Lincoln Heights playing Pac-Man. Shortly after, they were wed at St. Ann’s Basilica and Shrine on July 19, 1980. They were blessed with 40 years of marriage and four children, Katie, Kevin, Kyle and Elizabeth. Kathleen had many life passions, which included being a skilled gardener with a natural green thumb inherited from her Dad. Kathleen was also known as a fabulous baker and chef, a high school accounting teacher and an avid reader. She loved being outdoors, whether it be by her parents’ pool, the beach or sitting on the swing in her front yard. During the past COVID-19 year, she and Kevin enjoyed playing croquette in their yard and during inclement weather they competed indoors playing Backgammon. She adored and cared for many household pets over the years, most recently her sweet Bailey and Charlie. Kathleen was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed traveling to Ireland with her husband to visit their extended family in County Mayo. Most importantly, Kathleen will be remembered for her unwavering love of family. She was a beloved grandmother, daughter, sister, wife, niece, aunt, cousin and friend. Kathleen will always be admired and remembered for her selfless nature and warm and kind personality. She devoted her life to raising her children and made her life’s mission to stay involved and connected in their lives. The world is a better place because of Kathleen’s impact. Kathleen is survived by her spouse, Kevin O’Hearn; uncle, Joseph Wargo; daughters, Katie Finkbeiner and husband, Matt Finkbeiner; and Elizabeth O’Hearn; sons, Kevin O’Hearn and wife, Alana O’Hearn; and Kyle O’Hearn; and grandchildren, Adalyn, Oliver, Owen, Dylan and soon-to-be expected Connor. She was preceded in death and met in heaven by her loving parents, Terrence and Marion Holmes; her aunt, Anne Wargo; and her best friend and sister, Mary Ellen Donato. A heartfelt thank you and sincere appreciation is extended to the skilled and compassionate care provided by members of the Davitt family, Patricia and Bob, Dr. Megan Cali, Kristin and Ali. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lauren Nicholls and Dr. Bethel of Geisinger and Dr. Martin Hyzinski. Also, sincere appprecition to Dan, Joan, Dianna and Dawn of Allied Hospice Services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 17, at St. Ann’s Monastery and Shrine Basilica at 2 p.m.. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendees are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. The family will receive friends starting at 1 p.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a memorial donation in Kathleen’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Kevin and family, you have my deepest condolences on Kathleen's passing. As Pat Reed's brother, I spent many times at the Holmes' house, and I first met Kathleen when I was a dishwasher at the diner. She always had a big smile on her face and a big hello for me. May she Rest In Peace.
