Celebrating the Life of
Karon Javel Weston
December 20, 1995 – October 8, 2026
Karon Javel Weston, 30, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 8, 2026, at Geisinger Community Medical Center. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Karon was the beloved daughter of Raquel C. Burgess and Javel Weston.
Karon was preceded in death by her grandmother, Rachel F. Barrett; grandfather, Gerald Mitchell; uncle, Elgin C. Waiters; aunt, Dorethea Barret-Miller; and sister, Tiamara Buckley, who now welcome her into eternal rest.
Karon lived her life with joy, resilience, intelligence, and strength. Throughout her life, she overcame many challenges and was proud of the woman she became and the life she built.
Karon was truly one of a kind. She was the life of the party, known for her beautiful smile, bold personality, and unforgettable presence. She had a way of changing the entire atmosphere of a room, bringing laughter, energy, and excitement wherever she went.
You never had to wonder how Karon felt because she would tell you exactly what was on her mind, whether you liked it or not! And if you thought you were going to get the last word, you definitely didn’t know Karon. Her honesty, humor, and outspoken nature were all part of what made her so special. She was unapologetically herself, and there will never be another quite like her.
Karon’s greatest accomplishment was being a mother to her three beautiful children, who were her entire world: Zahaila Thomas, 13; Zyn’nari Kitt, 9; and Zyr’rian Kitt, 6. She loved her children more than anything and devoted herself to their happiness and well-being. She also cherished being an aunt to all of her nieces especially Azaria Waiters and nephews. Karon leaves behind a beautiful family, including her older brothers, Samuel Kendricks and Marlinn Waiters (Gia); her older sisters, Rachel Waiters (Albee), Caely Gensiak, and Quintina Shaw (Tracey); her aunts, Marlynn Barrett (Marvin), Nita Barrett (Chris), and LaVonda Wilder; her uncles, Alphonso Barrett (Carla), Chad Waiters, and Corvin Weston (Marketa); her grandmother, Lanell Wilder of Milwaukee; her boyfriend, Kevin Gilmore; her godfather, Angel Cataquet; her godmother, Lakoya King; and her mother-in-law, Ann Jennifer Thomas.
She also leaves behind a host of cousins, including the RFB Crew, who were more than cousins—they were brothers and sisters in every way that mattered.
She will also be deeply missed by her best friends, Angelica Velazquez and Shawn Kitt as well as extended family members, friends, coworkers, and all those who were blessed to know her.
Karon attended Scranton High School and took great pride in her work at St. Joseph’s Center. She loved her job and, most importantly, the residents she cared for.
Her work was more than just a job; it was something she genuinely enjoyed. Caring for others was a meaningful part of her life, and the time she spent with her residents reflected the love and dedication she brought to the people around her.
Her life touched many people, and her memory will continue to live on through her children, family, friends, coworkers, and all those who were blessed to know her.
Thirty years wasn’t nearly enough time. Although our hearts are broken by her passing, we will forever remember Karon for her radiant smile, outspoken spirit, infectious energy, and the love she gave in her own unique way. She was truly a presence that will never be forgotten.
Forever loved.
Deeply missed.
Always remembered.
“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near.”
