With faith and love we announce Joseph Robert Lentes went home to be with the Lord on February 17, 2026 at the age of 93. He is now safely tucked in His arms.
He was born on July 11, 1932 in Scranton, son of Joseph and Elinore Capwell Lentes.
Joseph was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He worked at the Scranton Times for a year, Decca Records for five years, and Royal Crown Soda for 30 years.
He was married to Janet Ulrich Lentes for 46 years and his first wife, Alberta Blazonis (who died in 1963) for five years.
Joe was a God-fearing man who was deeply ingrained in his faith; he attended Open Door Baptist Church faithfully.
He loved fishing, tying flies, and golf. He even had a Hole-in-one at Glenmaura National Golf Club. He enjoyed many years of camping at Lake Wallenpaupack with his family.
Joe was the first person to have polio in Lackawanna County. He never let Polio define him and accomplished so many amazing things during his lifetime. He said the only two things he couldn’t do was swim and play basketball.
He was preceded in death by his wife Janet, four sisters, Betty (Sam), Arlene (Paul), Lorraine, baby sister Mary, and his brother Donald (Lois).
He is survived by his two loving daughters, Susan Lottermoser (Darrell), Roanoke VA., and Debra Jurnak, Old Forge, PA. He also leaves behind his two beautiful grandchildren, Abigayle and George, his sister-in-law Eileen Walsh, aunts, cousins, and nieces. He is lovingly remembered by his special nephews, Sammy, David, and Tom Sica and a very close friend Betsy Budris.
Joe’s favorite saying was “Worrying is like a rocking chair – you’re moving but you’re not going anywhere! Do the best you can with what you have.”
Joe made friends easily during his stay at the Oakridge nursing home, where his smile and kindness endeared him to residents and staff alike; his humor, warmth and compassion touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
We celebrate Joseph’s life and honor his memory, knowing his legacy will forever live on in our hearts.
The family will hold private services.
