Joanne Ligorio, 84, of Scranton, died peacefully Tuesday at Allied Terrace. She was
the widow of Donald Ligorio, who passed away in 1990.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Albert and Catherine Cardoni Magnotta, she was
a graduate of West Scranton High School and Marywood University. Following
graduation, she worked as an elementary school teacher in New Jersey, where she
met Donald. Joanne and Donald shared a true and deep love, and returned to
Scranton to raise their family. She worked as a schoolteacher at St. Ann’s School and
as a substitute in the Scranton School District. Joanne was a devout catholic with a
special devotion to St. Ann. She was a member of St. Ann's Basilica, where she served
as a eucharistic minister, sang in the choir, and taught religious education. She was a
member of the Century Club and loved the arts.
Joanne’s life was exemplified by her overflowing love and kindness. She never ceased
telling everyone how much she loved them. Above all, Joanne loved her family and
insisted that they maintain traditions and stay close. Her unconditional love was an
inspiration to us all.
Surviving are her sons, Attorney Donald C. Ligorio and wife, Maria; and Michael A.
Ligorio and wife, Lori, all of Scranton; four grandchildren, Anna, Lena, Cosmo and
Donny; two brothers, Albert J Magnotta and wife, Dottie, Moscow; and Vincent
Magnotta, Camillus NY; sister, Regina Peters and husband, Jimmy; sister-in-law, Pam
Slagg and husband, Nick, Tampa FL; and many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her nephew, Vince Magnotta; and sister-in-law, Debbie Magnotta.
The family would like to thank the staff at both Allied Terrace, for providing her with a
home in her later years, and Allied Hospice, who provided her companionship and
comfort.
