Jeffrey McDonough, 70, of the Minooka section of Scranton, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. His devoted wife of 45 years is Colleen “Connie” Wales McDonough.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Joseph and Gloria Joyce McDonough, he was a devout Catholic and member of Divine Mercy Parish. Jeff graduated from Central High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Scranton. He worked for more than 30 years as the Corporate Controller at Minooka Subaru, where he developed lifelong friendships. He also valued many weekends as Vice President of Residential Sales at the Glenmaura Sales Center.
Jeff was a smart, funny, and generous man who always put others before himself. He loved his family and friends. He looked forward each year to his annual family trip to Disney. He also enjoyed spending time with friends at Kelly’s, trips to the casino, and listening to music by Elton John, Cat Stevens, and The Beatles.
A stroke survivor of 14 years, Jeff beat all odds. His perseverance was noted by many, and he was affectionately referred to by the Allied Services staff as their “Miracle Man of 2011.” His resilience allowed him to witness many important milestones in his children’s lives, including graduations, weddings, and the births of his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a good man by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jeff is survived by his three children: Matthew McDonough of Scranton, PA; Maggie McDonough Baker (Derrick) of Elmira, NY; and Molly McDonough Loughney (Matthew) of Scranton, PA; and his four grandchildren, Max, Rex, Gwendolyn, and Madeline. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Janet Wales of Tioga, PA; his sister, Joyce of Scranton, PA; and his brothers, James B. (Mary Ellen) of Scranton, PA; Christopher (Laurie) of Springfield, NJ; and Gerard of Scranton, PA. Also surviving are his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Donna (Ray) Krammes of Tioga, PA; Sandra (John) Mundro of Saylorsburg, PA; Donald (Karen) Wales of Millerton, PA; Timothy (Lynette) Wales of Millerton, PA; Pamela (Russell) Draper of Millerton, PA; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Donald Wales, and his brothers, Joseph and Mark.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call at the church beginning at 8:30 a.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave., Scranton.
