Jean Marie Gallagher

 

Jean Marie Kearney Gallagher, 87, of Minooka, died Monday at Allied Hospice Center surrounded by her four children. She was the widow of James J. Gallagher, who passed away in June, 1990. The couple was married for 34 years. Born in Minooka, daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Donovan Kearney, she was a member of the last graduating class of Minooka High School where she was captain of the cheerleaders. Her faith was strong and strengthened by her attendance of the Latin Masses at St. Michael’s Church. The matriarch of her family, Jean Marie was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was very proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed reading, discussing politics and history. She loved working in her garden. She cherished time spent with her children and grandsons and her growing family. Surviving are four children, Mary Kate Gallagher and husband, Robert Borthwick; Mavourneen Gallagher; Michael Gallagher and wife, Erin; and Tom Gallagher; three grandchildren, Stephen Borthwick and wife, Alycia; Brendan Borthwick and wife, Kaitlyn Casa; and Rory Gallagher; four great-grandchildren, Jeanne Marie, Gideon, Elijah and David; sister-in-law, Ellen Flynn; and close cousin, Catherine Richards; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean Marie’s family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Darlene Dunay, the staff of the third floor of the Jewish Home and Allied Hospice for all the beautiful and loving care that was given to her. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Allied Hospice Center, 511 Morgan Highway, Scranton, PA 18508. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave., Scranton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, 1703 Jackson St. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
