James Joseph Shevlin Jr

 

James Joseph Shevlin Jr., 93, of Pittston and formerly of Scranton, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 13 at The Gardens at East Mountain, Wilkes-Barre. He was the husband of the late Ann Marie Keating Shevlin of Tobyhanna and formerly of Bethlehem. Born on May 8, 1928 in Lackawanna County, he was the son of the late Madeline (Saxton) and James Joseph Shevlin Sr. of Scranton. Jim was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Syracuse University. He was an Army Veteran and served with the 18th Cavalry Regiment between 1946 and 1948. Starting his career as a young computer programmer, Jim had the opportunity to work with a number of industry pioneers in the 1960's and 1970's including Univac, Honeywell and Data General. A natural born musician with a passion for the Piano, Jim loved to tickle the ivories entertaining friends and family often. Jim was involved in various organizations throughout the Pocono Mountain Region, including serving on the board of the Pocono Farms Country Club. Jim loved the game of golf, and played frequently during his time at Pocono Farms. Jim was a genuine, honest and kind soul. He will be greatly missed by his devoted family and lifelong friends. Jim is survived by a son, Patrick J. Shevlin of Jersey City, N.J.; his sister, Karen Swackhamer and her husband, Richard, of Cranford, N.J.; sister in laws Natalie R. Keating of Nazareth; Jane K. Doran and her husband, Arthur, of Staunton, VA.; and many nieces and nephews. He is also preceded in death by his sisters Marian Shevlin, Patricia Pethick and her husband James Pethick of Scranton. Friends may call Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. at the McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home1401 Capouse Ave., Scranton. Christian Burial will be Friday at 12 at Holy Saviour Cemetery, 2574 Linden St. Bethlehem
