
Jacqueline Kirby, 87, of Scranton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at Allied Hospice Center.
She was born in Middletown, Ohio, daughter of the late Florence and Clifford Reese. A graduate of St. Mary’s High School class of 1952 and Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing class of 1955, she was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital and then Community Medical Center, Scranton, until her retirement. Upon her relocation to Estero, Florida, she developed a love of hospice nursing and went on to work for Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, Florida for several years.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Burt Reilly; and her loving husband of 37 years, Frank Kirby. She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Haag (Bob), Terri Golden (Paul), Jackie Babin (Brian); and her sons, Burt Reilly (Denise), Frank Kirby (Heather), Jeff Kirby (Kim); eight grandchildren, Paul Golden, Pat Golden, Lyndsie Carey, Tal Reese Fleming, Ryan Kirby, Corey Kirby, Amanda Crowley and Christine Crowley; two great-grandchildren, Paul Golden and Amelia Sickler.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, quick to laugh with a beautiful smile. During retirement in Florida, together with Frank she enjoyed playing tennis, square dancing, and traveling with many new friends who quickly became a part of their extended family. She was an active member of Our Lady of Light Catholic Community, Estero, Florida, and served as a Eucharistic minister for many years.
The family would like to thank the staff of Allied Hospice for their compassionate care.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Ann Basilica Parish, 1250 St. Ann’s St., Scranton. All those planning to attend are asked to go directly to the church.
Friends and family may pay their respect Friday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann’s St., Scranton.
