Gail A. Cole, 80, of Scranton, PA, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Esther Scrip. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cole Sr., who passed in 2013 after nearly 50 years of marriage.
Gail lived a life filled with laughter, generosity, and love for those around her. She enjoyed trips to the casino, a glass of Moscato, coffee at any time of day, and anything that sparkled, especially jewelry. She was a firecracker, never afraid to speak her mind, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Gail could strike up a conversation with anyone and had a special way of putting people at ease. She also dedicated 35 years of her life to working at Kmart and was a member of Elm Park United Methodist Church. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family and cherished every moment with her children and grandchildren. Her giving spirit touched everyone she met, and she never hesitated to help others in need.
She is survived by her children, Kelly Harron and her husband, Scott of Hummelstown, PA; Brenda Zarick and her husband, Jim of Scranton, PA; and Joseph Cole Jr. and his wife, Linda of Old Forge, PA. Gail was a very proud grandmother to Nikki Zarick, Nicholas Harron and his wife, Marizel, Kaylee Zarick and her wife, Ashton, Jacob Harron, and Lauren, Caitlyn, and Anthony Cole.
In keeping with Gail’s wishes, there will be no formal viewing or memorial service. She generously donated her body to the Humanity Gifts Registry, where she will continue to help others by aiding future medical students at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Donations in her memory may also be made to Allied Services Foundation, 100 Abington Executive Park, Clarks Summit, PA 18411, in honor of the care she received at Allied Services Hospice Center.
Gail’s love, humor, and sparkle will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Arrangements entrusted to the Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 1401 Capouse Avenue, Scranton, PA.
