Fred "Teddy" Lance Jr.

It is with great sadness that we pronounce the passing of Fred "Teddy" Lance Jr. at 88 years old. Fred was born in West Scranton in 1938 and passed away on Oct 5, 2026. Son of Fred and Catherine Lance Sr, he helped his dad after school delivering blocks of ice and bag coal. He graduated high school in 1956 and went right into the family business. Eventually he started the oil business in 1970 and ran the coal and oil until his retirement. Fred was so proud the business is in its 103rd year and still operating. He was a loyal parishioner of Jackson Street Baptist Church who rarely missed a Sunday worship. Along with the church, he was a member of the Scranton Liederkranz and Fraternal Order of Eagles, socializing with his friends. Fred is survived by his wife of 66 years, Yvonne; son, Fred and wife, Rose; daughter, Laurie Jakes and husband, Mark; daughter-in-law, Jean, who now resides where he grew up; five grandchildren, Katie, Sean, Stephanie, Victoria and Tyler; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his middle son, Robert. The family would like to thank the staff at Gardens of Green Ridge Memory Care and Allied Hospice for their outstanding care. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10am in Jackson Street Baptist Church, Scranton. Interment, Milwaukee Cemetery. Friends may call in the Church starting at 9am. Arrangements by Thomas J Hughes FH Inc, 1240 St., Scranton.
