Frank Gallagher, 72, of West Scranton and formerly the Green Ridge section, died Monday October 20, 2025, at Geisinger CMC. His wife is Marianne (Shahum) Gallagher.
He was a 1970 graduate of Scranton Technical High School and attended college at Bethel University in Tennessee and Penn State Worthington, earning a Paralegal certificate. Born in Green Ridge, the son of the late Frank and Geraldine (Stuart) Gallagher, he was a lifelong sports enthusiast. From cheering on his 1980s Boston Celtics, to celebrating when his beloved Red Sox finally captured their first World Series title in 86 years, his love of sports was persistent. Saturdays in the fall were often spent watching Notre Dame football, and weekends were frequently dedicated to supporting his grandchildren at their own sporting events. Frank also shared his passion for athletics with the community, coaching girls’ softball at the Tripp Park Missy League and girls’ basketball at Holy Cross for many years - experiences he cherished and that created lasting connections.
Frank retired from Clarks Summit State Hospital after over 35 years of employment and was able to spend his time on his porch swing and between Scranton and Orlando, Florida.
Also surviving are his daughter Heather (Gallagher) Raley (husband, Mike), granddaughters Maya and Kendall (Lutherville, MD), sister Margaret Michalski (Orlando, FL), and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
A mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10am in St. Paul's Church, Penn Ave., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery following the church service. Friends may call Friday from 4-7 at McGoff- Hughes Funeral Home (1401 Capouse Ave. Scranton).
In lieu of flowers, he would love if you treated your family to Nicholas’s Pizza one evening (1358 N. Washington Ave. Scranton) or donated to a charity close to his heart: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or the Christopher Clifford Scholarship Fund (118 Lakeview Trail Sugarloaf, PA 18249).
