Francis Higgins

August 14, 1943 to August 14, 2018

Francis William Higgins, 66 entered into eternal rest on Aug. 11, 2018. He is survived by his wife, the former Michele Condon (Micki) with whom he celebrated 43 years of marriage as of August 2nd. Born April 7, 1952 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Patrick Joseph (the corporal) and Mary Rose Hogan Higgins. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He previously worked for Elliot Corporations and retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He was proud of his Irish Heritage and growing up in Minooka. Fran enjoyed going to Red Barons games where he was a season ticket holder, cheering for Notre Dame and the Phillies. Fran was most proud of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and never missed a sporting event, especially Minooka baseball. He was the past President and extremely proud of throwing out the first pitch with his grandsons on opening day. Fran was a loving caring man who was always there for others when they needed help. Among many of his talents, supervising projects around the house and giving directions (better than Google Maps). Fran fought a hard battle with Type 1 diabetes, but through the generosity of an organ donation from the Gift of Life program he received the gift of 11 years of seeing his grandchildren grow. The family expresses its deepest gratitude to Dr. Nicholas Chiumento for his exceptional care throughout Fran’s illness. Also surviving are a son, Tim Higgins and wife, Kim, Moosic; daughter, Attorney Kathleen Higgins, Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Patrick and Brady Higgins; sister, Patricia West and husband, Ken, Moosic; and nephew, Kenny West. He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Joseph Higgins; brother-in-law and best friend, Joe Sauter; brother-in-law, Tom Condon; and goddaughter and niece, Melissa Sauter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10am in Divine Mercy Parish, Davis St, by Rev. Francis Pauselli. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7pm in the Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave., Scranton. Memorial contributions can be made to Divine Mercy Parish or the Gift of Life Program.
