Erick Marengo, 62, of Scranton and formerly of Kissimmee, Florida and Jersey City, New Jersey, passed away Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born Sept. 14, 1958, in Manhattan, New York City, he was the son of Carmelo Marengo and the late Antonia Marengo. He was educated in the Jersey City system of public schools and spent his career as a repairman and landscaper.
Erick was a devoted grandfather, father, friend and neighbor. His love for life, cars, food and fishing were matched by his generosity of spirit. Erick was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors whenever their homes, cars or belongings were in need of any repairs. His outpouring of help was a gift he loved to share without ever expecting anything in return.
He is survived by his daughter, Ericka Lavelle, R.N., BSN, Waverly Twp., Pa., and her husband, Thomas. His daughter was singularly devoted to her father’s health and well-being. The poise, composure and dedication she embodied during her father’s last days were a blessing to her father and a consolation to his family. Ericka would like to thank the skilled and dedicated nurses and doctors of the surgical and intensive care units of Geisinger CMC for their care and concern for her father.
Erick is also survived by his two grandchildren whom he cherished and adored, Declan Xavier and Emma Sofia Lavelle. Also surviving are his brother, Edwin Marengo and wife, Mari, Kissimmee, Florida; his sister, Carmen Santiago and partner, Antonio, Scranton, Pa.; his father, Carmelo Marengo, Kissimmee, Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 19, at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green, Pa. Friends and family may pay their respects prior to the Mass beginning at 10 at the Church of St. Gregory.
