Eleanor Magnotta Matteo

 

Eleanor Magnotta Matteo passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday at 94 years old. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Frank Matteo, in 1978. Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Rocco and Rocchina DeVivo Magnotta, she was a graduate of West Scranton High School. Eleanor worked in the family’s grocery business with her brother, Felix, until their retirement. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 920 and a lifelong member of St. Ann’s Basilica, where she also worked many years at the annual Novena. Surviving are her sisters, Sue Ann and Armeda Magnotta; nieces, Lucille Silvestrini and husband, Joseph, North Wales; and Susan Magnotta; nephews, Fred Magnotta and wife, Joan; and Christopher Magnotta and wife, Kristin, all of Scranton; great-nieces and great-nephews, including Laura McGarry and husband, Kevin; Leigh Fennie and husband, Will; Maria Magnotta, Rock Magnotta; Jenna Stewart and husband, Ian; Melissa Silvestrini and Ellie Magnotta; and several great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Felix and Fredrick Magnotta; sisters-in-law, Jennie and Judith Magnotta; and nephew, Rock Magnotta. The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli and Cindy for their excellent care and kindness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s Basilica, Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Thomas J.
