Dorothy Kearney Murray, 88, of Scranton, died peacefully Wednesday at Marywood Heights. She was the widow of Donald Murray, who passed away in 2018 after celebrating 62 years of marriage. She was born and raised in the Minooka section of Scranton, and was the daughter of the late Timothy and Bridget Corbett Kearney. She was a lifetime member of Divine Mercy Parish where she was a member of the church choir, the Women’s Guild and was a constant volunteer at all church functions. Dorothy was a devout Catholic and lived her faith. Attending mass daily was a very important part of her life. Prior to retirement, she worked as a secretary at South Scranton Intermediate School and was well known in the community for her expert sewing ability. Her talents can be found adorning many homes and businesses throughout the city. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the nurses, nuns, and staff of Marywood Heights and The Hospice of the Sacred Heart for all of the kindness, care and compassion they provided to Dorothy during her stay. She is survived by her grandson Coilin Murray and wife Krista, Scranton, daughter in law Katie Murray, Scranton, great grandchildren Parker and Archer Murray, Scranton, sister Bernadette Bracey, Scranton, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by her son Timothy, brothers Joseph, Martin, and Paul Kearney, sisters Katherine Yancilla, Rose Kurilla, and Peggy Murray. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30am in Divine Mercy Parish at the Church of St. Joseph, 312 Davis St., Scranton by Rev. Francis Pauselli, pastor. Friends may call in the Church starting at 9am. Arrangements by Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave, Scranton. Interment, St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marywood Heights Activities, 2500 Adams Ave, Scranton, or The Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 340 Montage Mountain Road, Moosic.
