Dorothy Connor, 81, of Scranton, died Thursday, January 23rd at Advent Health hospital in Daytona Beach Florida with her daughter Sally and son in law Kevin at her side. She was the widow of Anthony “Tony” Connor Sr.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late James and Priscilla Evans Holman, she was a graduate of West Scranton High School and a member of St. Ann's Basilica. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Casual Sportswear and The Bon Ton department store for 23 years. Her joy in life was her family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nana, aunt and friend. She loved being with her husband and supported whatever he was doing as his number one fan whether he was playing baseball or softball, coaching, umpiring, refereeing. Both Dorothy and Tony had a love for music and especially loved dancing. Whether they were out or just simply in the house while he played his music and sang to her. She also loved their car rides together and ice cream stops. She was a devoted mother who never missed any activities or sporting events her children were involved in. She looked forward to any moment with her family, big or small. She especially loved spending time in Florida with Sally, Kevin and their doodles and many vacations and trips with Tony, Georgina and their family. The highlight of her world were her grandchildren. She adored and cherished her grandchildren and loved every moment spent with them. Being their Nana was her pride and joy. As she did with her husband and children, she was involved in every one of her grandchildren’s activities and events whether in person or watching games streamed online. The latest highlight of her life was being able to see her granddaughter Rebecca’s wedding this past September to her “new grandson” Marc. She danced her heart out that night surrounded by her family. She genuinely loved being with her family and was always up for an outing. She loved to be included regardless of the activity and was nicknamed “me too” by some of her nieces. She also enjoyed her monthly lunches with the “pizza girls” consisting of childhood and high school friends. She touched everyone around her and truly treated them as her own.
Surviving are her son, Anthony Connor Jr and wife, Georgina, Archbald; daughter, Sally McHugh and husband, Kevin, Ormond Beach, Fl; four grandchildren, Rebecca McCarthy and husband Marc, Throop; and Laci, Claire and Anthony Connor III, Archbald. Several nieces and nephews who she had a close bond with all in unique ways and several cousins and friends. She will be dearly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother James “Jim” Holman this past November, her sister Sally Rosser and husband Dick Rosser, friend and sister-in-law Eileen Holman and several in-laws and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10am in St Ann's Basilica. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8pm Thomas J Hughes FH Inc, 1240 St. Ann St.
