
Donna L. Helring of Scranton died Sunday at Lindwood Nursing Center. She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Robert Helring.
She was born in Dover, N.J., daughter of the late Douglas Wilhelm and Audrey Koman Van De Graaf. She retired from the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center after working for more than 20 years as a nurse’s aide. Donna was a hardworking woman who often completed a shift at the VA and worked another as a personal care nurse. She enjoyed vacationing in Ocean City, Md., and spending time in Atlantic City.
Surviving are her four children, Chad Zack and wife, Kristin; Leeann Shafer and husband, Wyatt; Stephen Chapkovich and wife, Cindy; and Scott Chapkovich; and seven stepchildren, Robert Helring, Ann Marie Griffiths, Sabrina Helring, James Coss, Edward Coss, Theresa Mecca and Carol Ann Coss. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren; and a sister, Randee Janiszewski and husband, John. Her children and grandchildren were very special to her. She loved her Shih Tzu, Berlin, who was her constant companion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 17, at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s Basilica. Interment will follow the services at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may call Wednesday, June 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann’s St., Scranton
