Donald Caleb Diehl

 

Donald Caleb Diehl Sr., 89, of Jefferson Twp, Pa. passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at home after an illness with his loving daughter, Pamela, by his bedside. Don was born on July 12, 1935 in Scranton. He was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah Davis Diehl. Don was a graduate of West Scranton High School. Don worked as a salesman for Electrolux and later was the manager for several food restaurants, Stop and Go, Pal’s, Bob’s Big Boy, and Western Sizzler Steak House. He owned the White Spot Burger Bin, and the White Spot Tasty Freeze. After retirement, Don worked part time at Hazzouri Brothers and Co. and the Co-Op Farmers’ Market. Don enjoyed collecting old cars, going out for coffee, playing rummy and checkers, as well as ice skating and skiing in his younger days. He loved his pastries and home baked goodies too. Most of all, Don loved spending time with his family, and he always looked forward to the next family gathering. Surviving are two sons, Donald Diehl Jr., and his wife MaryAnn, of Hamlin, Pa; Leonard Diehl, and his wife, Judy, of Jefferson Twp, Pa; and two daughters, Pamela Thomas, with whom he resided, and her husband, Robert, of Jefferson Twp, Pa; and Valerie Stoner, and fiancé, John Lindquist, of Thornhurst, Pa; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his son, Joseph, and two grandsons, Matthew and Joseph Diehl, Jr., three brothers, Elmer, Joseph & Edwin Diehl and four sisters, Dorothy Sheridan, Betty Kochan, Evelyn Speranzo, and Joann Diehl. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care and support to Don and the family. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 28th, at 3 p.m. at Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann’s St., Scranton, Pa., by Pastor John Christopher, Elmdale Bible Church. Interment will be in the Washburn Street Cemetery, Scranton, Pa. Friends and family will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
