Desiree Rich, 59, of Scranton, died Tuesday at home.
Born to Margeret Cooper on June 20, 1964 in Harlem Hospital, she was the second born of three siblings. She attended PS 68, following she attended IS 201 and she graduated from Julia Richman High School.
Desiree dedicated her life to taking care of her kids. On June 28, 1981, Desiree had her first child with Charles Bell, a girl and they named her Latoya. Desiree and Charles split soon after they had Latoya but maintained a co-parenting and friendship full of love until present. In 1991, Desiree met Tyron Rich Sr. and they fell deeply and welcomed her second child, Tyron Jr., on April 29, 1992, as well as got married in the same year. Three years later Desiree and Tyron separated, and in that time she met Charles Butler and they welcomed her third child and second daughter, Diamond, on March 15, 1995. They maintained a relationship for a couple of years before they split. Later on, Desiree got hired to work at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, where she met Kevin Webb and they pursued a romance and shortly after welcomed her youngest child, Julaisha, April 7, 2000.
Desiree was a light to all those around her. Loud, happy, full of life and so uncut and caring. Any room she was in her presence was felt tremendously and she would help anyone in need in any way she could. Desiree put her faith in God steadily and made sure her kids knew him as well. Words cannot explain the void that Des will leave here on earth and in our hearts or the influence she had on everyone she met.
She leaves behind her four kids, Latoya, Tyron, Diamond and Julaisha; her grandchildren, Tahj (11), Greysen (7), Belize (5), Aria (3) and Harlem (3); brother, Irvin cooper; sister, Roseline Speller; her best friend, Renee Moses; multiple cousins and outpouring of people who loved her from all walks of life.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home Inc. Friends may call starting at 11 a.m. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.
