Delores Frances "Dee" Ozack

With hearts full of love and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our mother, Delores Frances “Dee” Ozack, who passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Sacred Heart at the age of 86, surrounded by those who loved her most. Delores was a woman of remarkable strength and resilience. Throughout her life, she courageously battled and overcame cancer three times. While her fourth battle proved to be one too many, she faced it with the same determination, grace, and courage that defined her life. Born on March 15, 1940, in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stella Preslock Caolo and Frank Caolo Sr. She was educated in the Scranton School District and graduated from West Scranton High School. A woman of strong faith, she was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church before transferring her membership to St. Ann’s Monastery Basilica Parish, where she enjoyed volunteering at church activities and picnics. Delores worked as a family assistant for 40 years, continuing until the age of 72. She loved her work and the many families she assisted throughout the years, forming friendships and connections that lasted long beyond the job itself. Family was at the center of Delores's life. She is survived by her son, Edward Ozack Jr. of Scranton, PA, and his partner, Sharlene; her daughters, Christine and her husband, Mark, of Factoryville, PA, and Cindy and her husband, Jim, of Fleming Island, FL. She was a proud grandmother to Nicole, Erin, Tom, Kristi, Troy, Staci, Cal, Declan, and Ashley. She is also survived by her loving nephew, Gary Caolo of Scranton; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She lived a full and joyful life, creating lasting memories with family and friends through lake picnics, cookouts, card games, and countless gatherings. One of her greatest joys was attending Irish festivals, where she loved dancing, singing, and listening to her favorite Irish music. She rarely missed a St. Patrick’s Day parade and looked forward each year to the Italian Festival, especially her favorite UNICO porketta sandwich. Delores also enjoyed bus trips and shopping adventures with friends, ceramics, weekly bingo games, solitaire, crossword puzzles, and games on her cellphone. Warm, outgoing, and easy to talk to, Delores never met a stranger. She made friends wherever she went and enjoyed keeping in touch with family, friends, and even the children of lifelong friends through Facebook. She was preceded in death by her sister, MaryAnn Caolo Schott of Scranton; her beloved daughter, Susan A. Holland of Scranton; and her cherished great-granddaughter, Carlie Holland. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, at St. Ann’s Monastery Basilica Parish, at 1233 St. Ann St., Scranton, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA. Arrangements entrusted to Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, Inc.
