David E. Boston

March 19, 1945 to March 19, 2020

David E. Boston, of Scranton and formerly Factoryville, died peacefully on Monday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. He turned 91 on this past St. David’s Day, March 1st. His wife of 61 years, Gwyneth Thomas Boston, died in 2011. Born in West Scranton, son of the late William and Margaret Bevan Boston, David graduated from West Scranton High Scool in 1946. He began his working career at Hudson Coal Company and eventually transitioned into the printing business. He was employed for many years as a lithographer at Eureka Printing Company in Dunmore and eventually owned his own print shop for 24 years, Boston, Camera & Press, in Clarks Summit and then Factoryville. David was very proud of his musical Welsh heritage and started voice lessons at the age of five, growing to be a well known area bass vocalist and choir director. He began his professional career in his early twenties, singing with the St. David’s Day (male) Quartet. Later, David was the choir director at Immanuel and Green Ridge Baptist Churches, Scranton, and more recently at the First Baptist Church of Factoryville. During his singing career, he held many positions, including bass soloist at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Scranton, and First Presbyterian Church in Wilkes Barre, as well as choir member and cantor at B'nai B’rith Temple in Kingston for 24 years. He also sang in the choir where he was a member, The Church of the Epiphany, Glenburn. Over the years, he was a frequent soloist for The Singers’ Guild of Scranton, the Wyoming Valley Oratorio Society, and member/soloist of the Robert Dale (currently Arcadia) Chorale. David was a true Renaissance man who dabbled in photography and later enjoyed painting. Midway through life, he learned and loved to cook and bake. He taught himself to play classical guitar, electronic organ, recorder, and clarinet. He also had a great love for camping and hiking in New Hampshire, and sailing in Maine. Surviving are two daughters, Gwenda and husband Vic, GA; Evelyn Munley, Greenfield Twp; five grandchildren, Victor Cuvo and wife, Jen; Laura Norris and husband, Eric; Sarah Chatelain and husband, Court; Megan Nolan and Justin Munley; twelve great grandchildren, Oliver and Anthony Chatelain; Emmett, Owen, and Luke Norris; John and William Cuvo; and Sebastian, Chase, Hayley, Molly and Zander Nolan. He was preceded in death by a brother, William; and a sister, Melba Jane. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the wonderful and compassionate care David received at both Geisinger CMC and Hospice of the Sacred Heart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in October at Church of the Epiphany. Arrangements by the Davies & Jones Funeral Chapel, 135 S Main Ave, Scranton
