Davey Williams

David J. “Davey” Williams, 64, of Lake Henry, formerly of Scranton, passed away unexpectedly at the home of a close friend on Dec. 26, 2020. His wife of nine years is Roxann Renda Williams. Born in Scranton on July 25, 1956, Davey was the son of the late Charles and Mildred Bevan Williams. He graduated from West Scranton High School, class of 1974, and the Johnson College of Technology. He was employed at Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials, Scranton, for the past 45 years and also tended bar at the American Ukrainian Vets Association Club for many years. Taken too soon, he will be dearly missed by many. If life is measured by the love of family and friends, Davey would be the richest person you could know. He was always there to lend a helping hand and had a fierce loyalty to family and friends. He was also an animal lover and especially loved his many dogs through the years. He was a member of the former Hampton Social Club and a founding member of the Lincoln Heights GFY party committee. Davey worked hard and played hard. He enjoyed life and loved to travel with Roxann and his friends. His favorite place, however, was at Lake Henry — first his cottage, then his house and home with Roxann and their pets. There, he was captain of his pontoon boat and enjoyed long rides on his motorcycle. He was an avid sports fan, especially following his beloved Penn State, Cowboys and Phillies. Surviving are his stepchildren, Donnie and Mandy Blest; brothers, Charlie (Linda) and Danny (Gwyn); and a sister, Donna Burge; nieces, Tina Neureuter and Amanda Burge; and nephews, Chuckie and Jeff Williams, Thomas Burge and John Manning; along with grandnieces and grandnephews; and many cousins; father-in-law, Francis Renda and wife, Ann Marie; and mother-in-law, Paulette and John Kisal; sisters-in-law, Jackie Akenrode, Melissa Kisal, Dawn Tansley and Kelly Timlin. He was predeceased by sisters, Barbara Crea and Sharon Supinski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Ann’s Monastery Church and Shrine Basilica on St. Ann’s Street in Scranton. A viewing will be held before the Mass at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Due to the current health crisis, social distancing and masks will be required. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Davey’s name to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411. Above all, Davey would want everyone to be kinder to one another. The family plans to hold a celebration of Davey’s life at a later date.

Davey and I hung out together in Lincoln Heights since about middle school, through our teens and as adults until I moved to California in the mid 80’s. We always got together any time I came back to Scranton for a visit. Some of my fondest memories of Davey are at Saint Anns’ Monastery grounds, playing football and baseball and drinking beer. Davey was quite an athlete and was good at any sport he played. He certainly was a tough guy to bring down when he ran with a football. We had some great times at Atlantic City, Penn State, camping in New York State, and fishing off of his dock with big Teddy Kacz when he first bought his lake house. Davey was a true friend. He was a nice guy but he never took any shit from anyone. He was one of those guys who you could always count on. If a bar fight ever erupted, as they sometimes did, Davey was one of the guys you wanted with you. My thoughts and prayers go out to Roxann, Danny and the rest of Davey’s family, relatives, friends and fellow Heightsmen. While I am deeply saddened by Davey’s passing, I am happy to say I was lucky enough to have had Davey as my friend. Kevin “Wass” Wassner, Palmdale, California

So sorry to hear of Davy's passing. He was a true Lincoln Heightsman. We shared a lot of laughs and good times playing softball games as members of the Heights team. I will keep him and his Mom, Millie in my prayers.
