Concetta Vinciguerra

 

Concetta Vinciguerra, 76, of Scranton, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on July 16 after a brief illness. Concetta was born on Sept. 10, 1947 to Fred and Helen Bressi Geary in Danville, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1965. Her professions over the years included banking, bookkeeping and serving as a teacher's aide in the Berwick Area School District. In 1996, she moved to Scranton, Pennsylvania. In 1999, she married her beloved husband, James Vinciguerra. They celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on Aug. 19, 2023. Her hobbies included painting, gardening and volunteering for local political and religious organizations. She was a member of St. Ann's Basilica Parish of Scranton. She volunteered for the CCD program with Kathy Stocki and other programs at St. Ann's. She also volunteered for Telespond in Scranton. Her passions included homeless dogs and cats. She was a pet owner for many years and continued to advocate for homeless animals for many years. Concetta was preceded in death by her father and mother, Fred and Helen Bressi Geary of Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania; and her husband, Daniel Whitenight, of Berwick, Pennsylvania. Survivors include her husband, James Vinciguerra of Scranton, Pennsylvania; her son, Gregory Horne and his wife, Victoria, of Allen, Texas; her daughter, Sherri Fish and her husband, Corey, of Berwick, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Michelle Matash and her husband, Steven, of Berwick, Pennsylvania; her stepdaughter, Diane Angeli and her husband, Ray, of Eynon, Pennsylvania. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Basilica. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St., Scranton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Funeral arrangements are with Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, 1240 St. Ann's St., Scranton, Pa.
