Charlene Elizabeth Lance

Charlene Elizabeth Lance, 87, of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, passed away peacefully on Saturday surrounded by her family.Born March 24, 1930 in Scranton, daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth James Bray, she was the fourth of eleven children. She graduated from West Scranton High School in 1948, and in 1950, married her high school sweetheart, Jack. They happily spent the next 63 years together until his passing in 2013. Charlene was the epitome of devotion and love. She poured her heart into everything she did- whether hosting family get-togethers, being the President of the Green Ridge Little League and Teener League Womens Auxiliary, doting on and taking photographs of her grandchildren, cooking Sunday dinners, working in her garden, or just cheering on the Baltimore Orioles. A woman of strong faith, her unconditional kindness, compassion, and fortitude was clear to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was always there to lend a helping hand or be a calming presence. Her beautiful smile, grace, and unwavering love will be eternally missed.A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, she is survived by her two sons, Jack and his wife, Gloria, Clarks Summit; and Jeff and wife, Wendy, Stow, Mass; her three beloved granddaughters, Emily, Clarks Summit; and Kylie and Jamie, Stow; her sister, Ardith Buhlman of Cheektowaga, NY; her brother-in-law, William Lance and his wife, Florence, Scranton; a sister-in-law, Barbara Bray, Dimock; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by infants siblings, Charles and Elizabeth; sisters, Dorothy Zehner, Ann May, Marilyn Bunnell, and Carol Hall; and brothers William, Richard, and James Bray.Her family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Majernick, Dr. Sanjay of Moses Taylor Hospital, the staff at Willowbrook Assisted Living, the staff at the Green Ridge Nursing Home, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their wonderful care and compassion during her illness. The family will receive guests at the McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home, 1401 Capouse Avenue in Scranton from 2:00-4:00 PM on Saturday August 19th. Interment will be private.
