Catherine Rutledge O'Malley

Catherine Rutledge O’Malley, 68, of Tunkhannock passed into the arms of God peacefully on Sunday morning, May 10, 2026, at the home of her brother after a courageous 11-year battle with COPD and Emphysema.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene O’Malley, younger sister Theresa Rutledge-VanBuskirk-Huntingcut, and her mother Margaret (Peggy) Rutledge Bruce.
Catherine was born in Scranton and graduated from Scranton Technical High School.
Following her graduation, Catherine started her medical career at Allied Service Rehab/Skilled Nursing before transferring to Mercy Hospital, Scranton where she worked as a Medical Coder.
Catherine was an avid gardener, loved to knit and crochet and gifted her family with numerous handmade tablecloths, sweaters, and much more. Catherine also loved animals and was a fur mother to her numerous cats.
Catherine is survived by her daughters Catherine Muro – Hawley, Kellie Sopinski and husband Paul Sopinski – Taylor, Paul Rutledge Montrose, Brother Joseph Rutledge and husband David Gaus - Scranton, Aunt, Diane Hallock - Tunkhannock, grandchildren Roseann, Shannon, Nicole, Kristian, Paul Jr., Catherine, Morgan, PJ, Paul Rutledge, Michael, Joshua, Nathan, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, 1240 St. Ann’s St., Scranton PA 18504. Friends may call from 5pm to 7pm with a service at 7pm by Rev. Richard E. Fox, pastor of St. Patrick’s Church.
