Beverly Ann (Kelly) Hoeffner

Beverly Ann (Kelly) Hoeffner, 89, of Scranton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, in the Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center (formerly The Jewish Home) in Scranton, Pa., where she was a resident. She passed through to the afterlife peacefully surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, Frank Charles Hoeffner, of Scranton, Pa.
She was born in Binghamton, N.Y., although she lived most of her life in Scranton, Pa. Beverly was the daughter of the late Anna Kennedy (Kelly) Roach and stepdaughter of the late Walter Roach.
Beverly attended Scranton Public Schools and was a 1951 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. She served as class officer/treasurer and was a member of the band and orchestra. She helped coordinate and attended every class reunion up until recent years when her health declined. In her younger years, she was employed by First National Bank and Rueben H. Donelley Phone Directory. After taking time off to raise her children, she was the co-founder of the Senior Craftsmen Shop in downtown Scranton and employed there for many years. She also worked at Head Start of Lackawanna County, Scranton School District and Dunmore Senior Center before retirement.
Beverly’s Episcopal faith at St. Luke’s Church was a big part of her family's life. She was a member of St. Luke’s Church choir as a child and as an adult. She also found time to volunteer as a Sunday School teacher, an officer of the Episcopal Church Women’s Group, a member of the Parish Newsletter Committee, Secretary of Vestry and a Lay Eucharist Minister. As a volunteer, she was also active in Meals on Wheels, assistant scout leader, Scranton Cultural Center usher, Retired Senior Volunteers Christmas Bureau and Serving Seniors Inc. Beverly had an explosive passion for selflessly giving of herself to advocate for others.
Also surviving is her brother, Edward H. Kelly and wife, Carole of Derby, Kan.; her four children, Donna Bourbeau of Clarks Green, Pa., Wendy Jordan and husband Edward of Greenville, S.C., Jodi Cerminaro and husband Salvatore of Scranton, Pa., Jill Myers of Scranton, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Lea Ruger and husband Terry, Holly Tomko and husband Rob, Johna Atkinson and husband Landon, Tara Mattern, Dana Boylan and husband Michael, Nick Cerminaro, Kathleen McCalla and husband Caleb; eight great-grandchildren, Samara, Austin, Matthew, Dylan, Rosalie, Amelia, John and Michael; and several nieces and nephews.
Beverly was preceded in death by her sister, Arlene Hughes; brother-in-law, Ralph Hughes; and nephew, Blair Hughes.
Beverly’s family would like to express our sincere appreciation for the unending support from her lifelong friends and neighbors. Also, we would like to acknowledge the excellent care and support Beverly received from all of the staff at Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab.

A funeral service will be held on 1-18-2024 at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 232 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton, PA 18503 by Rev. Rebecca A. Barnes. Friends and family may call from 1:00 to 2:00 pm in the church with a service at 2:00 pm.

My condolences go out to the Hoeffner family. Beverly was like a second mother to me I had a tone of laughs with this woman if you didn't know her you would also have so much fun I had a ball with their kids and her husband was like a second father to me great personality that you would laugh every time God bless you and rest in peace and she was also the best Avon lady ever
