Beth Ann McFarland (Lavelle)

“Beth, what are you, crazy?? You can’t go now. But, she did. Beth Ann McFarland Lavelle left us, in body, May 29th, after a battle with pneumonia. She passed away with family/loved ones around her, her older brother singing Danny Boy to her via video from Thailand as Beth tried to sing along. “Betty Boops” was the 5th of Tom and Shirley Lavelle’s 6 kids. Tom passed in 1983, Shirley in 2017, Lauri the eldest child in 2021 and Kimberly, #2, left this life just three weeks before Beth, on May 6th, 2025. Beth was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at Penn State University. As Beth was finishing her degree, she began work for Preservation Management Inc., helping to manage Skyview Park housing project in South Scranton where, for over 30 years, Beth, Utta and team fought to find and manage housing for thousands of immigrants, lower to middle income clients and, as Beth would say, “good folks who just needed a good start, a push, a little luck.” With her husband and best friend of over 30 years, Barry, Beth built a home for all, taking in Barry’s son, grandchildren (Bobby, Billy and Faith) and even Faith’s children, Bella, 5, and Lei Lei, 3-all from Barry’s previous marriage. Bella and Lei Lei would be the light in Beth’s life after Barry passed away in December, 2023. Beth reflected clearly the unconditional love that was a way of life for our mother, Shirley. Beth lives on in her siblings-Todd, Kelly, Tish- the loved ones she has taken in without question and in thousands of ethnic Hispanic, Asian, African and local people who have been touched by Beth’s gentle kindness. Beth’s family will host a “Beth & Kim” Gathering for family & friends (open to all) at 3pm, Friday, June 13th, followed by a joint funeral 4-5 pm all at St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Avenue, Scranton, PA. Inquiries call 570 561 4188 or 570 947 8158. Arrangements by McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home, 1401 Capouse Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509.

Lena Fuller

I’m so saddened to hear this news, my condolences to Beth family and loved ones. My son Maurice Fuller and Beth known each other for some time and I was made aware of her passing through him. She spoke with often and he even went to her home with his son. She was a kind person. My son spoke of her in good regards. She definitely has left this works to soon. We need more people like her that have compassion and empathy for those in need and don’t think twice about assisting others., like second nature. Rest in Heavenly peace your now with your husband and those that left before high in the sky. 🤍🕊️🕯️✝️🥺
