Barbara Ann Barrett

Barbara Ann Barrett was a beloved daughter, sister and aunt. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Barbara on May 17, 2023. She was born in Scranton to the late Joseph and Ann McNerney Barrett on Sept. 17, 1948. After graduating from St. Ann’s High School, Barbara started working at Marywood College between her travels across the country with cousins and friends. In 1978, Barbara made a significant move to Los Angeles, Calif. to be with her sister, niece and nephew, where she worked as an executive assistant for Tosco Oil Company. Barbara moved back to her hometown of Scranton after the passing of her father. Barbara worked for the Diocese of Scranton as an executive assistant to the superintendent of Catholic schools until her retirement. Barbara was very proud of her Irish heritage, a devout Catholic and loved the moments spent cheering on Penn State football. Barbara’s love for her family was immeasurable. Her warm presence, kindness and unwavering devotion endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Barbara’s absence leaves a void that can never be filled, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
